EMOTIONAL CAPITAL

BOSASA'S CAPITAL HILL SUCCESS FORMULA

EMOTIONAL CAPITAL

What’s in a name and what is in the heart of the BOSASA Group?    Gavin Watson opines that emotional capital apart from being a powerful approach to leadership, is also that which is vested in three things:

First Gavin Watson believes it is the Company name which sets the tone and creates a higher goal.

Second, emotional capital is the engine which drives its commitment and creativity. The name BOSASA was chosen to set the philosophy, ideology and ethos of the company. It means the future, and all personnel harness and direct their energies to achieving a future for themselves, the Company and its community members who are disadvantaged.

Third emotional capital is what binds clients and the personnel of the BOSASA Group in strong and trusted relationships.

Commercial Impact

Emotions do have a commercial impact. People are not going to achieve if they are not emotionally attached to their work and outcomes.

Lawrence Weinbach of Unisys, turned his company around, reducing his debt by more than $1 billion using this approach to leadership. He claims that his staff regained trust and confidence in the company with this concerted approach and his staff turnover fell 10% below the industry average.

Imagining and Building a Future

Gavin Watson has used the emotional capital approach from inception. Staff transformed the way they do business, conduct their private lives and invest in customer relationships.

As with emotional intelligence, the emotional capital is used to regulate the BOSASA environment with authenticity. C.K. Prahalad who helped to turn poverty stricken areas of India around, used the same philosophy. He said ‘Its not enough to imagine the future, you have to transform it and build it.’  Transform the future we have. Built the future we have.

Emotional Capital drives business change. Gavin Watson transforms product design, tacit knowledge, customer service and people through emotional capital as an energy force.

Emotional Capital forms part of the symbolic asset formula that has made BOSASA a leading player in South Africa and Gavin Watson a transforming agent
